Pedal for Patriots: Fit India's Tiranga Cycling Rally Unites a Nation in Fitness and Tribute

The 25th Fit India Sundays on Cycle, celebrated as the Tiranga Cycling Rally, saw over 75,000 cyclists nationwide pay tribute to India's armed forces. Led by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the event launched new initiatives like the Fit India Newsletter and a carbon credit feature on the app, promoting patriotism, fitness, and environmental awareness.

Delhi, 01 June 2025 – On a vibrant Sunday morning, India witnessed a powerful display of unity, patriotism, and health as the 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, aptly named the Tiranga Cycling Rally, swept across the nation. More than 75,000 cyclists, spanning over 5,000 locations, joined in a synchronized tribute to India's brave armed forces, painting the roads with the colours of the national flag.

A Star-Studded Flag-Off in Delhi

The heart of the rally beat strongest at Delhi's Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, where the Hon'ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led a spirited contingent of over 1,500 cyclists. He was joined by Secretary (Sports) Sh. Hari Ranjan Rao, an array of sports legends including Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, cricketing stalwart Saba Karim, and wrestling champion Sarita Mor. Adding a touch of Bollywood glamour, actress Sharvari, alongside the Indian cycling team, pedalled in unison, setting an inspiring tone for the nationwide event.

Jammu & Kashmir Leads the Charge

A particularly poignant highlight of this Sunday morning was the overwhelming participation from various regions of Jammu and Kashmir. From the scenic valleys of Jammu to the challenging terrains of Poonch, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Bandipora, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, and Samba, cyclists showed immense enthusiasm. This widespread engagement was a testament to the impactful work of several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and SAI Training Centres (STCs) in fostering a culture of fitness at the grassroots level.

A Salute to Our Jawans: Operation Sindoor in Focus

Dr. Mandaviya, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, underscored the profound significance of this special edition, especially in the wake of the recent successful "Operation Sindoor." "This Tiranga Rally is a salute to our jawans and their sacrifice," he stated, his voice resonating with pride. "Fitness and patriotism go hand in hand." His words served as a powerful reminder of the deep connection between a healthy nation and a strong, secure future.

Innovations for a Fitter, Greener India

The landmark 25th edition also served as the launchpad for two groundbreaking initiatives poised to revolutionize the Fit India movement. The Fit India Newsletter, a monthly digest packed with inspiring stories, updates, and expert training tips from fitness influencers, will serve as a vital resource for enthusiasts.

Even more exciting was the introduction of the Carbon Credit Feature on the Fit India mobile app. This innovative addition allows cyclists to track the carbon credits they save by choosing cycling over other modes of transport, directly contributing to environmental sustainability. Dr. Mandaviya encouraged widespread adoption, stating, "One download of the app will make you a part of the Fit India movement. Your speed - from 7 to 34 kmph - and your distance will be recorded, and your carbon credits will be added." This brilliant fusion of fitness and environmental consciousness truly elevates the movement's impact.

Sharvari: The Young Fit India Icon

Bollywood's rising star, Sharvari, renowned for her roles in "Munjiya" and "Maharaja," was bestowed with the prestigious title of ‘Young Fit India Icon’ by Dr. Mandaviya. Expressing her gratitude, Sharvari shared her personal connection to cycling, recalling fond childhood memories. "This movement is huge and it’s an honour to be a Fit India Icon," she remarked. "Cycling reminds me of school summer holidays—we all used to hire cycles and set out." She further emphasized the profound meaning of the rally, adding, "This cycle rally is even more significant for me because this is for our brave soldiers. We can sleep peacefully in our homes because of them and it is my great honour to pay tribute to their bravery through this Tiranga Rally.”

From Humble Beginnings to National Phenomenon

What began in December 2024 with a modest 150-odd cyclists has, in a mere six months, blossomed into a national phenomenon. This meteoric rise is a testament to the unwavering support of diverse partners. The CISF, Indian Medical Association, Journalist Associations, Teachers, Corporates, and professionals from various other walks of life have played a pivotal role in this incredible journey. This edition saw special collaborations with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, Association of Indian Universities, BYCS India, CultFit, and Red FM, amplifying the reach and impact of the rally.

Athletes and Dignitaries Pedal for Progress

The event drew widespread support from athletes and dignitaries across the country, further cementing its status as a movement uniting all. Olympian and wrestling champion Yogeshwar Dutt eloquently articulated the initiative's core, calling it "a movement that links national health with national pride." He added, “If we are healthy, the country will be healthy. Young kids, senior citizens, all are participating. That’s the power of this campaign.”

From SAI Training Centre (STC) Agartala, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Dipa Karmakar flagged off the rally, inspiring countless participants. In SAI Sonepat, an assembly of celebrated archers and para-athletes, including Padma Shri Awardee Deepika Kumari, Padma Shri Archery Coach Purnima Mahato, Arjuna Awardees Sumit Antil (Paralympics Double Gold Medallist), Asian Games Gold medallists Jyothi Surekha, Ojas Deotale, Aditi Gopichand Swami, and Paralympians Sundar Gurjar and Pushpender, actively participated. Renowned Indian Hockey player S.K Uthappa graced the event in SAI Bengaluru, while SAI Rohtak witnessed a strong representation from the All India Police force.

Political leaders also joined the cause, with Smt Rekha Arya, Hon'ble Sports Minister of Uttarakhand, and Sh. Girish Yadav, Hon'ble Sports Minister of Uttar Pradesh, participating from their respective states. Former cricketer and sports administrator Saba Karim lauded the initiative's inclusiveness, stating, “This is a brilliant step by SAI. Cycling keeps us fit and our surroundings green. I used to cycle to school myself. There’s no maintenance, no pollution. A perfect tool for health and environment.”

Wrestler Sarita Mor echoed the sentiment, expressing her profound gratitude. “I feel blessed to be part of this initiative started by PM Shri Narendra Modi. Cycling is already a part of my training routine. Today, with this rally, we also remember our brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor. It is because of them that we stay safe today.

The 25th Fit India Tiranga Cycling Rally was more than just a cycling event; it was a powerful statement of a nation on the move - physically, patriotically, and environmentally, setting a new benchmark for collective well-being and national pride.
