Yoga Day 2025: A Global Movement for Health and Harmony

Yoga for a Healthier Planet: Countdown Begins for International Day of Yoga 2025!
The Ministry of Ayush has officially kicked off the countdown to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, setting the stage for a monumental global celebration of health, harmony, and peace. With a curtain-raiser event held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, the excitement is palpable as India prepares to host the main event on June 21, 2025, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, led by none other than Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
A Decade of Global Wellness
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, along with Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, addressed the media, reflecting on the remarkable journey of IDY over the past decade. It was in 2014 when Prime Minister Modi's visionary call led the United Nations General Assembly to adopt June 21st as the International Day of Yoga, igniting a global wellness movement rooted in India's ancient wisdom.
Since its inception in 2015, IDY has been celebrated with overwhelming enthusiasm worldwide. From the historic first event in New Delhi to landmark celebrations in Mysuru, New York, and Srinagar, each year has seen people from diverse cultures unite in the shared pursuit of well-being.
'Yoga for One Earth, One Health': A Global Vision
As IDY enters its 11th year, the theme for 2025, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' resonates deeply with India's G20 Presidency's global health vision. This theme beautifully embodies the Indian civilisational ethos of 'Sarve Santu Niramaya' – "May all be free from disease," emphasizing a holistic approach to health that benefits everyone.
The national event in Visakhapatnam promises to be a spectacle of unity, with Prime Minister Modi leading a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session alongside an astonishing five lakh participants. Simultaneously, "Yoga Sangam" sessions will unfold at over one lakh locations across the country, marking one of the largest synchronized yoga demonstrations in history.
Andhra Pradesh Leads the Way with "YogaAndhra"
A significant acknowledgement was made to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and its Chief Minister, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, for launching the ambitious "YogaAndhra" campaign. This initiative aims to cultivate a community of 10 lakh regular yoga practitioners across the state, showcasing a strong commitment to promoting yoga at the grassroots level.
Ten Signature Events: Taking Yoga from Mat to Masses
IDY 2025 is set to feature ten Signature Events spread over 100 days, strategically designed to engage various segments of society and promote yoga as a holistic way of life. These events, ranging from "Yoga Samavesh" for inclusivity to "Yoga Bandhan" for international partnerships, highlight the government's vision of expanding yoga's reach from individual practice to widespread public participation.
The momentum for IDY 2025 has been building steadily through a series of successful countdown events held at 100-day, 75-day, 50-day, and 25-day milestones in Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Nashik, and Puducherry respectively, generating widespread public enthusiasm.
A Call to Action for a Healthier Society
Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav urged the media to join this noble cause, emphasizing that "Yoga is not just a practice of postures and breathing—it is a way of life." He called upon everyone to support IDY 2025 in becoming a landmark event that inspires millions to integrate yoga into their daily routines, fostering a healthier, happier, and more harmonious society.
Global Participation and Collaborative Partnerships
Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, shared exciting updates on global participation, noting that over 60 countries have already initiated activities in preparation for IDY 2025. Yoga enthusiasts worldwide are actively organizing events aligned with the 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' theme and the ten Signature Events, truly reflecting the international character of this transformative movement.
Shri P.N. Ranjit Kumar, Officer on Special Duty (IDY Coordination), Ministry of Ayush, provided a comprehensive presentation, detailing the grand vision and strategic approach for IDY 2025. He highlighted the collaborative partnerships being forged with state governments, civil society, and international stakeholders to ensure widespread and inclusive participation.
The Ministry of Ayush is leveraging digital tools, grassroots mobilization, and global partnerships to amplify the message of "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," positioning IDY 2025 not just as a national observance, but as a truly global wellness celebration. Get ready to stretch, breathe, and connect as the world embraces the unifying power of yoga!
