Guwahati, Assam, India – On the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a day etched in India's history for its triumph and sacrifice, the Indian Army's commitment to relentless evolution was brought sharply into focus. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, speaking at the commemoration, announced a monumental leap in the force's modernization drive: the formation of new “all-arms brigades” to be known as “Rudra.”
This pivotal development, approved by General Dwivedi just yesterday, marks a departure from the traditional arm-specific brigade structures. The "Rudra" brigades are set to be a formidable amalgamation of fighting components, including infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial systems. This comprehensive approach, supported by meticulously tailored logistics and combat support, signifies a shift towards a more integrated and adaptable combat force. As General Dwivedi articulated, "Today's Indian Army is not only successfully addressing current challenges but is also rapidly advancing as a transformative, modern, and future-oriented force."
Sources reveal that two existing infantry brigades have already been successfully converted into these dynamic "Rudra" brigades, underscoring the swift implementation of this strategic vision.
Beyond the "Rudra" brigades, the Army Chief highlighted other critical advancements aimed at bolstering the force's agility and lethality. The establishment of "Bhairav" Light Commando Battalions, designed to deliver "shock to the enemy on the border," points towards an enhanced focus on specialized, swift-response capabilities. Furthermore, every infantry battalion now boasts its own Drone Platoon, signifying the crucial integration of aerial surveillance and strike capabilities at the grassroots level. Artillery units have received a significant boost in firepower through the introduction of "Divyastra Batteries" and Loiter Munition Batteries, while Army Air Defence is being equipped with advanced indigenous missile systems. These measures, General Dwivedi affirmed, will "increase our force multifold."
General Dwivedi also used the platform to reiterate India's unwavering resolve against terrorism. He invoked Operation Sindoor, the precision strikes launched in response to the heinous April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that tragically claimed 26 innocent lives. He emphasized how the Army, in a display of "unbreakable Indian unity," carried out decisive strikes on terror infrastructure, sending a clear message: "those who harbour terrorism will no longer escape."
The announcements on Kargil Vijay Diwas not only honour the valor of the past but also chart a clear course for a more resilient, technologically advanced, and strategically integrated Indian Army, ready to face the complexities of future warfare.
